I need to know what genre of music you listen first off and of what age... new school ( 1999 to present ) old-school ( 1999 and down ) this is important to know for the so that I can understand the bass style you listen to...

plus if you what give me the box outside dimension, I will design a new enclosure for you.

Here is a nice design that will give you what you want.... solid performer and the bottom end will be solid.

Just remember to follow the design exactly!!!!

Also Matt, I'm Currently I'm using your box design for IDMAX 12V3 2,5cu ft tuned @28Hz with polyfill. Will it accomodate the old school bass? Or I need new box?

Sorry if i asked in the wrong thread. But I just curious about the old school bass and new school bass.
Old school bass is refering to sumtin' like Two Live Crew bass?

=Thanx=

Hi Eric. :D
Oh nooo... :o :o I like old school bass then. No wonder I keep on complaining about the sound. U remember my thread do u Eric? Currently I'm using the 2,5cu ft tuned @28Hz for single 12V3 IDMAX. Can the box handle old school bass? Or I should ask Matt to design a new box for me plz? Size doesn't matter. I'm gonna use 25mm MDF board.

Should I continue asking here or just plz move my post to my thread?

Thanx

BTW, Matt. Does car cabin gain related to the tuned box freq? My car cabin gain is around 50Hz. And how do you design a suitable box? Can u give short tutorial perhaps? :D I just wanted to learn how to design a good box for sub. Maybe I can experiment with it too. :P

=Thanx=

No short answer... but I do consider transfer function of the cabin into the box... this will always help in the bottom end... I will show you what it looks like when I post the box up.

here is your box and this should be nice...
Attached File  Dual iDQ 12 v.2 ported~wide range smooth output~.pdf (288.25K)
Number of downloads: 26

this is what it looks like when you take out the car...
Attached File  no trans .PDF (19.83K)

if you want to have some fun I have never tried this myself but instead of stuffing the box you could instead stuff the port, what the effect is like in theory is bottom end of a ported box but with the group delay of a sealed box. same box and port just stuff the port with .5 pounds of fiberglass and some how cap them with grill cloth...

I stumbled across this thread (since I am new) and would like to bring it back from the dead to see if anyone can elaborate on this technique of using stuffing in a ported enclosure. I have tried this and have been impressed somewhat with the results but I was just wondering if there was more to be had by means of tuning the amount of stuffing in the port and conceptually how this differed from a aperiodic enclosure.

In simple terms a stuffed port is still a Helmholtz resonator so it is still a ported box but the stuffing will damp its resonance just like it damps the resonance of a speaker in an resistive membrane (aperiodic) enclosure.

Think of damping like a shock absorber it controls the spring and reduces ringing in the circuit, this translated into better transient performance and less distortion.

That is very intriguing to me. Should these ports be stuffed tightly to flow little air or only partially stuffed? My setup used two 8" long ports that I stuffed along the full length and capped with screen-material but I figured that this way the woofer would act mostly as if it was in a sealed box but to me it sounded much more impressive than a sealed enclosure. I had wondered why...

Lightly stuffed but it is affected by many variables. Testing is the best way to determine the amount.
